Hailing from the Caribbean Islands of Trinidad and Tobago, Xanthin
Smith and Creig Camacho have brought a whole new meaning to the term “DJ”.
They have combined their talents to form a high-energy, interactive
presentation. Not only do they MC and play all styles of music, but they perform many of
the hits as well.
Xanthin and Creig first met in 1995 as performers on the Junkanoo
Bus. This was a live Caribbean show at Walt Disney World’s Epcot Center. Xanthin was
the show’s lead dancer and MC, while Creig was lead vocalist for the band DEJA (one
of the live bands that performed on the bus). Both of them also had past DJ experience,
and so they teamed up and put on a DJ/MC show on the days that the live bands were off.
They have been performing together ever since at various theme parks, resorts
and wedding receptions.
What sets ‘de Island Boys’ apart from all other DJ’s
are the live performances. Instrumental versions of certain songs are played, and while
Xanthin demonstrates the “follow-me” dance routine, Creig sings the song. The
interaction allows the audience to participate, creating energy similar to a live band.
Caribbean music may be their specialty, but ‘de Island
Boys’ play a variety of music from all over the world, thanks to a musical library
that rivals anyone in the state of Florida. From today’s hits to the golden oldies,
and every musical genre in between, they have it all. They also have the latest DJ and
lighting equipment, including a Mackie PA System that enables them to perform for any
sized event.
‘de Island Boys’ are perfect for weddings, conventions,
beach and pool parties, company picnics, bar/bat mitzvahs or any other special occasion.
For them, the letters “D” and “J” stand for something else besides
Disc Jockey. “D” stands for the diversity that sets them apart from the rest,
and “J” stands for the joy they bring to all who witness their show.
