
Jeff S
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Jeff has been performing,
recording, and teaching music for over 22 years. Performing over 150 shows each year, Jeff
performs all styles of music including Classical, Jazz, Spanish, and Popular. A 1989
graduate of Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, he received his Bachelor of Music
degree in Classical Guitar Performance. Jeff has and continues to study with many
world-renowned artists including Stephen Robinson (a protege of the great guitarist Andres
Segovia) at Stetson University in Florida, and composer/guitarist Loris Chobanian, as well
as with members of the Cleveland Orchestra, Ohio Chamber Orchestra, and vocal studies with
David Gooding, director of the Cleveland Opera Chorus.
Among the numerous solo concerts and private engagements he
has performed, included are Master Classes for eminent guitarists such as Eliot Fisk,
Eduardo Fernandez, Benjamin Verdery, Bruce Holzman, and the Pearl and Gray Duo. He has
performed for dignitaries such as Orlando Mayor Glenda Hood, Governor of Ohio George
Voinovich, Congressman Bill Sublette, former Secretary Of State Alexander Haig, and ten
other U.S. Secretaries of State. In June 1995, Jeff and his music were featured at an art
showing honoring artist Thomas Kincade. Also notable are performances in Cleveland for
organizations such as L.T.V. Steel Corporation at the Terminal Tower, The Eaton
Corporation, Real Estate Title Corporation, Realty One Corporation, and Cleveland City
Hall.
Since moving to Orlando in 1996, Jeff has performed for many
organizations including the Central Florida Pediatrics Society, Florida Today Newspaper,
and Architects of Central Florida at the Orlando Museum of Art. Other venues he has
performed at include Walt Disney World, The Disney Institute, Universal Studios, House Of
Blues concert hall, Church Street Station, Leu Gardens, Cypress Grove; numerous country
clubs including Heathrow, Alaqua, Isleworth, Windermere, Bay Hill, Mt. Dora, Sabal Point,
Interlachen, and Timacuan; restaurants including Maison et Jardin, Citrus Club, Emeril's,
Wolfgang Puck's, and Nicole St. Pierre's; and numerous weddings and private engagements at
hotels and convention centers such as Disney's Swan & Dolphin Resorts, Grand
Floridian, Omni Rosen/Rosen Center/Clarion, Marriott, Radisson, Embassy Suites, The
Peabody, Renaissance, Caribe Royale, Orlando Hilton, Hyatt, and many more. Jeff has also
been interviewed and performed live on several Orlando radio stations.
Jeff has performed in many musical theater productions. In
1996, he played guitar, sang, and acted in the Cleveland Opera's production of Dale
Wasserman's Man of La Mancha. Other musicals he has performed in include Evita, Working,
Hannah....1939, and Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story. He has also performed with
Virginia Steiger, principal flutist of the Ohio Chamber Orchestra, and plays Renaissance
Lute with Renaissance ensembles.
His experience also includes extensive performing in jazz and
rock music settings. He has toured the eastern US and Canada, and more recently, he has
been writing, recording, and touring with his three piece rock project. Jeff is currently
performing in the Florida area as a solo artist and in a variety of musical combinations
including duos, trios, & quartets, playing a variety of different music styles
including Classical, Jazz, Spanish/Brazilian, and Top 40/Popular music. He is currently
performing with his jazz projects on a 7 string jazz guitar built by Gary Mortoro, which
incorporates an additional lower 7th string that extends the guitar's bass range. For
classical music, he performs on Ramirez guitars, known as one of the finest guitars in the
world, which were also used by the great Andres Segovia.
Jeff has conducted music seminars in Orlando area schools on the guitar's
history and it's role in music. His teaching experience extends over the past 22 years in
the Cleveland and Orlando areas. For several years he was director of the guitar
department at the Florida State Conservatory of Music, a private music school. Working
with students of all styles and levels, he continues to give instruction and workshops on
guitar.
