At the age of nine, Phillip got his first taste of alto
saxophone through his Florida school system. Unlike other children his age, he picked it
up rather quickly. It was as if Phillip demonstrated a natural ability for playing this
instrument. After many hours of practice, he found his musicality starting to come out of
its shell. At the age of fourteen, people started recognizing his ability. As a result, he
was invited to perform at numerous functions, including The National Heart Assoication
Banquets. A couple years passed, and Phillip became a member of The South Plantation High
School Jazz Band, where he demonstrated exceptional mastery of his craft and rose to
become the leading soloist in his high school band. Phillip won the admiration of his
peers and the accolades he received propoelled him to practice even more diligently to
perfect his art. As a result of his mastery, the nickname, "Sax Man" was earned.
At age 16, Phillip auditioned for the All State Jazz Band, where he placed second in the
state of Florida. Thus, the birth of a star. Having received sate recognition, Phillip was
courted by the University of Central Florida and awarded a music scholarship. Under the
tutelage of Dr. George Weremchuk and Mr. Jeff Rupert, he developed a keen ear for tone and
pitch. As a rsult, he became the first chair saxophonist in the UCF Jazz Band throughout
his years at college. While playing at the university, Phillip was invited to play at
local venues thus making a name for himself. Through the persistent encouragement of his
numerous fans, he eventually decided to record his music. Hence, his first album,
"Saxappeal" was produced.
...a note from Sean McCabe, President of EC:
"I had the opportunity to hear Phillip and his
jazz band play one night at a venue in downtown Orlando. I stopped in only for a moment to
visit a friend, and felt compelled to stay for two complete sets! Phillip's mastery of his
instrument is only complemented by the incredible talent of the musicians he performs
with.... they all seem to have a natural ability.... beyond musicality, they all
"feel" the music they are playing! I must say that hearing traditional jazz,
along with contemporary interpretations of artists like Sade, George Michael and Kirk
Whalum just to name a few was shear delight. I would recommend Phillip and his band to any
company, from family to Fortune 500!!!"
