Harpist Rosalind B graduated magna cum laude
with bachelor of music and music education degrees from the Philadelphia Musical Academy.
Rosalind studied with principal harpists of the Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Boston
Symphony Orchestras. She was principal harpist of the Florida Symphony Orchestra from 1970
to 1993, appearing as soloist with the FSO on several occasions. Rosalind is currently
principal harpist with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. She plays for the Bach Festival
and Brevard Symphony Orchestra as well. Rosalind was a featured artist on the
Philharmonics Serenade chamber series at the Orlando Museum of Art in winter 2002,
2003; at Embry-Riddle University in January 2003; and on the Mad Cow Theatres
Cabaret Festival in Spring 2003. She has previously performed on both the
Philharmonics chamber orchestra and Sounds of Summer chamber music series. Her
accompaniment of the Orlando Deanery Boy choir can be heard on the just-released compact
disc Prayer for Peace. Rosalind teaches selected private students and is also an active
free-lance musician in the greater Central Florida area.
Rosalind has maintained a reputation as one of the areas
finest harpists. In addition to her position as Principal Harpist with the Orlando
Philharmonic, Rosalind frequently appears as a featured accompanist with Central
Floridas leading choral groups. Her wide and varied repertoire spans the classics
and sacred music to standards, pops, and show tunesand she plays it all on her
gorgeous gold concert grand harp.
Rosalind has played at every major Central Florida hotel, including
many at Walt Disney World, prestigious country clubs, and she is a recommended provider of
musical services for the Maison et Jardin restaurant. She also frequently performs in the
rotunda at Orlando City Hall for gala art exhibit openings.
Rosalind is in constant demand for wedding rehearsal dinners,
ceremonies, and receptions; private functions; corporate events; or just about any
occasion calling for a tasteful, high-quality performance.
Critical praise for
Rosalind:
July 2, 2004 Orlando Sentinel Commander Coconut
column:
". . .I took in the first concert of the
Orlando Philharmonic's "Sounds of Summer Series"... The concert was interesting
and tasteful... and for me, Rosalind Beck stole the show. She has been a symphony harpist
in Orlando for years."
When Rosalind sat down at
the harp -- whose strings can reverberate, making their own afterglow -- the broad,
strummed chords of Jean-Michel Damase's Adagietto sounded practically luxurious by
comparison to everything that came before. --Steven
Brown, Orlando Sentinel, July 13, 2001, review of Orlando Philharmonics Sounds
of Summer chamber music concert.
